About Positive Pathway and Wellness Center
An Outpatient Psychiatric Practice in Hagerstown
Positive Pathway and Wellness Center is an outpatient mental health practice serving Hagerstown, Washington County, and patients throughout Maryland by telehealth. We provide psychiatric evaluation, medication management, psychopharmacology, and therapy for adults navigating mood, anxiety, trauma, sleep, and substance use concerns.
Our office is at 28 Jonathan St in Hagerstown. Care is delivered in person, entirely by secure video, or in whatever combination keeps a patient consistently engaged in treatment.
How We Practice
Evaluation Before Prescription
Every course of treatment begins with a real psychiatric evaluation — history, symptom timeline, medical contributors, prior treatment and how it went, and what the patient actually wants to be different. Diagnoses drive treatment decisions, so we invest the time to get them right rather than prescribing to the presenting complaint.
Trauma-Informed Throughout
Trauma-informed care is not a specialty service here, it is how appointments are conducted. Patients control what they disclose and when, are told the reason behind each question, and are never pushed into recounting an experience before there is enough stability to make that useful.
One Coordinated Plan
Because prescribing and counseling both happen within this practice, treatment stays coordinated. A change noticed in therapy reaches the next medication visit; a medication adjustment is tracked in session. Patients are not left carrying information between clinicians who never speak to one another.
Honest Conversation About Options
We explain what a medication does, how long it takes to work, what the side effects genuinely are, and what the alternatives include — among them waiting, or starting with therapy alone. Patients can decline a recommendation and remain fully in care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral to be seen?
Not from us. You can call and book directly. Some insurance plans require a referral for behavioral health, so it is worth checking with your plan if you intend to use insurance.
What happens at a first appointment?
A full psychiatric evaluation: your symptoms and when they started, medical and psychiatric history, medications tried and how each went, and what you want treatment to change. You leave with a diagnosis where one is clear, an explanation, and a plan.
Do you see patients outside Hagerstown?
Yes. Telehealth lets us see patients anywhere in Maryland, which matters in parts of the state where waiting lists for psychiatric care run months long.
Can I be seen for therapy only, or medication only?
Either is fine. Some patients want counseling alone, some want a prescriber and already have a therapist they value, and some want both here. We will recommend what we think fits and then work with what you choose.
