Individual and group therapy address the same difficulties through different mechanisms. Individual work gives you undivided attention and full control over the pace and the material. Group work gives you something one-to-one therapy structurally cannot: other people in the room who recognize the experience from the inside.
Neither is a lesser version of the other, and many patients use both — individual sessions for the personal history, group sessions for practicing what comes out of them.
One-to-one sessions are fully shaped around your situation. There is room for detailed personal history, for material that is too private for a group, and for pacing that adapts week to week.
Groups bring together people working on related difficulties, guided by a clinician. The value comes from what happens between members: hearing your own experience described by someone else, receiving honest feedback from people with no stake in flattering you, and practicing new ways of relating in real time with real people.
Group members agree to confidentiality as a condition of participation, and the clinician sets and maintains that expectation.
Because we also provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management, therapy is coordinated with the rest of your care. A change in mood noted in session can be raised at the next medication visit; a medication adjustment can be tracked in therapy. It is one plan, not several running in parallel.
We recommend a format after the initial assessment, and the recommendation can change. Starting individually and adding group later is a common and sensible path.

Yes, and many patients do. A common pattern is individual work on personal history alongside a group for practising what comes out of it.
Members agree to confidentiality as a condition of joining, and the clinician sets and maintains that expectation. It is not identical to the legal protection covering the clinician, and we are direct with patients about that difference before they join.
That is common, and it is also frequently the thing group work helps most. Starting individually and moving to a group once you have some footing is a reasonable and often recommended path.
Therapy groups are deliberately kept small enough that every member has time to speak. Ask about current group size and availability when you call — offerings change.
